Inside the volunteer crew keeping a 19th-century lighthouse lit

The light went automatic in 1992. The visitors' book didn't.

Every weekend a handful of townspeople still climb the 138 steps to polish brass, log the weather, and open the tower to anyone who walks up the headland.

"It's not a museum," one of them says. "A museum is finished. This still does its job."
