Small brewers warn deposit-return scheme favours the big players

Independent breweries have written to the department asking for a sliding registration fee under the incoming deposit-return scheme.

Under the flat structure, a brewer producing a few thousand cans of a seasonal beer pays the same administrative fee per line as a multinational.

The department says it is "open to hearing" proposals before the scheme goes live.
